Solar, Wind and Storage – One Project at a Time

SERVICES

Utility and Distribution Level
Project Development

Site Selection

  • GIS Mapping and Analysis of project proximity to point of interconnection (POI) with adequate transmission voltage to support a utility scale project. Additionally, identification of complex gen-tie routes that may hinder the economic viability of a project.

  • Analysis of project available transmission capacity (ATC) using commercially available grid data for each ISO.

  • Analysis of topographic project issues that could “kill” a project – flood plain, terrain, access issues, slope, shading.

  • We consider the highest and best renewable energy use of the property when making viability determinations – battery storage, solar, wind or a combination.

  • We own a proprietary dataset of wind data to model your projects’ wind speeds at hub heights of today’s leading wind turbines.

Land Acquisition

  • We negotiate land acquisition for site control on project areas up to 100,000 acres. Our team has successfully negotiated thousands of these real estate for renewable projects over the last 14 years.

Full Siting – Land Analysis Report

  • Development of a DM Renewables Proceed/ Do Not Proceed Opinion

  • Real estate market analysis to include comparable sales, development of complete land budget and target lease rates, price range to obtain site control.

  • Analysis of agriculture budgets for primary commodities produced in the local project area. This is helpful in determining landowner offers.

  • Observations about mineral ownership for solar and wind projects including an overview if mineral issues or known leases are observed. Recommendation if a detailed mineral ownership report/ take-off is needed.

  • Analysis of topographic/ geographic constraints and siting issues.

  • Creation of general site map with parcels, elevation analysis

  • Analysis of observed conservation easements, utility easements, pipelines, available transmission utilities for interconnection

  • Development of project pre-development schedule

  • Analysis of local government data

Solar and Wind Energy Assessment, Project Feasibility and Project Area Recommendation

  • High level desktop review of client provided land parcel data available for energy development – up to 27,000 acres max size. Deliver a memo style report that will include an image of a solar resource map or wind map overlaid on a map of the land parcels provided. The deliverable will include a short memo describing the solar or wind resource, and a brief commentary on whether, or not DM Renewables believes there is solar, battery or wind development potential within the project area.

FEATURED PROJECTS

Projects in action

DM Renewables has a pipeline of solar projects along with stand-alone Battery Energy Storage Sites (BESS), as well as co-located solar/BESS, and wind/BESS sites within the ERCOT market of Texas. Access to our project data page is available after completion of a confidentiality agreement.

Advanced Plant Design and Energy Assessment

  • As the solar, wind or battery project plan matures, optimal plant design and accurate estimation of future production become essential. Our methods are transparent, proven, and have been validated against operational data.

  • Site visit

  • Review of the meteorological program

  • Resource analysis

  • Climate adjustment

  • Modeling of the spatial distribution

  • Detailed Loss Assessment

  • Estimate Uncertainty

  • Project design and energy production

Project Electric Feasibility Assessments

  • Electrical Load Flow Studies (Oneline Diagram/ Redflag)

  • Injection Capacity Study

  • Full Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED) Analyses

  • Evaluation of SCED cases to assess Project risk considering additional generation buildout and planned transmission expansion:

  • 2027 Base Case including transmission generation and expansion through 2027

  • 2028 Base Case including generation and transmission expansion through 2028

  • 2028 Transmission Upgrades: Base Generation and select transmission expansion upgrades that have a high probability to be approved and installed by the end of 2028.

Environmental Due Diligence

  • DM Renewables offers the full suite of planning, environmental, regulatory and engineering services to early-stage solar and wind development projects to accurately and efficiently characterize sites and minimize initial and long-term risk to development. DM Renewables identifies and mitigates potential concerns early to position their projects for success.

  • Critical issues analyses, feasibility studies, and due diligence

  • GIS modeling and constraint mapping

  • Preliminary siting and conceptual site design

  • Phase I and II environmental site assessments

  • Engineering resource modeling and simulations

  • Aerial imagery and topography surveying

  • Biological resource (wetland, wildlife, and avian) and geotechnical studies

  • Cultural resource and architectural history surveys

  • Local, state, and federal permitting

  • Glint and glare analysis and visual impact assessments

  • Hydrological and hydraulic flood studies

  • Federal requirements, such as National Environmental Policy Act, and state environmental review

Energy Storage Development

  • As the adoption of solar and wind increases exponentially, DM Renewables has focused on providing solutions that support the increased adoption of low-cost solar energy resources and increase grid reliability. Energy storage provides a carbon-free alternative to traditional power capacity resources, with greater cost certainty and increased flexibility to access various value streams.

  • DM Renewables has a history of developing renewable energy projects from scratch and has also been an innovator and currently at the forefront of developing hybrid renewable + storage projects.

  • Our approach to development involves building strong and early relationships with all stakeholders. We are consultative and transparent and we pride ourselves on getting to know the community to ensure local people benefit from the project, whether that’s through job creation, an injection of new business into the local economy, or enhancing the local infrastructure.
